Malaysia is planning to impose a cash transaction limit of RM25,000 in a bid to strengthen the country's financial integrity and prevent cash used for illicit activities. Mr. Stephen Hii Hium Ung (Secretary-General) attended an Engagement Session on Cash Transaction Limit (CTL) organised by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM - the Central Bank of Malaysia) on 15 January 2020 at BNM Office Kuching. The objective of the session is to socialize and seek the views of industry players on the proposed CTL measures.20.01.2020
SME Talk jointly organized by Sin Chew Daily and Hock Seng Lee Group held on 22 February 2020. SME Talk was presented by Mr. Koong Lin Loong (Chairman, SMEs Committee of ACCCIM), SMA was one of the supported associations. The representatives of the organizers visited SMA and conducted a briefing on the SME Seminar on 20 January.

Some members attended a Seminar on “Corporate Liability under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009” organized by Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF) on 20 January 2020 at Hotel Hilton, Kuching. MACC is a government agency in Malaysia that investigates and prosecutes corruption in the public and private sectors.

Mr. Joseph Lau Ka Hoo (President) attended the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) Integrity Day on 21 January 2020 at Sarawak Chamber, Riverside Majestic Hotel, Kuching. During the opening ceremony of SEDC Integrity Day, YAB Datuk Patinggi Dr Abang Johari Tun Abang Haji Openg, the Chief Minister of Sarawak emphasized that since we practise the culture of integrity, transparency, accountability , Sarawak can be prosperous and strong in this region.
Among those present at the event were YB Datuk Talib Zulpilip, Minister in Chief Minister’s Office (Integrity and Ombudsman); YB Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture; Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain, Chairman of SEDC; Mr. Abdul Hadi Abdul Kadir, General Manager of SEDC.

The father of Mr. Sim Cho Phong (Vice-President) passed away peacefully on 31 January 2020. Mr. Stephen Hii (Secretary-General); Mr. Stephen Ung (Assistant Treasurer); Madam Rebecca Sim (Council Member) and Yeo Eng Hock (Executive Secretary) paid their last respects to the late Mr. Sim and atended his funeral on 2 February 2020. Sim family donated RM 5000.00 to SMA, we wish to extend heartfelt thanks to the family.

The mother of Mr. Stanley Lau (Council Member), Madam Lucia Wong was called home to be with the Lord on 1February 2020. Mr. Stephen Hii (Secretary-General); Mr. Stephen Ung (Assistant Treasurer); Madam Rita Ting (Council Member) and Yeo Eng Hock (Executive Secretary) visit the family of the late Madam Wong and paid their last respects to her.

Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) will be rolling out a new online system to improve its service delivery to timber industry players, government agencies and stakeholders throughout the state. The system, called STIDC Timber Industry Information System (STIS), was the result of plans to improve the standard operating procedures and replace the existing system of Online Registration System (ORSIS) for the company registration process and eGrading system.
Mr. Stephen Hii, the Secretary-General attended a Briefing on the new system on 19 February 2020 at Dewan Seminar PUSAKA, Podium Block, Wisma Sumber Alam, Kuching.

Due to the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases infection in Malaysia rised in first half March, in order to reduce the spread of the pandemic, and the growth of positive cases, the government had imposed a 14-day Movement Control Order (MCO) from 18 to 31 March nationwide to curb the spread of the Covid-19 infection in Malaysia. YAB Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, the Prime Minister announced the MCO on 16 March, Monday night.
A Press Release issued by the Registry of Society on 16 March 2020, announced that all associations are prohibited to conduct programmes / activities /conferences / assemblies / general meetings until 30 June 2020 to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

YAB Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, the Prime Minister announced the MCO Phase 2 on 25 March 2020. The Movement Control Order (MCO) nationwide which was enforced from 18th March 2020 to 31st March 2020 due to the pandemic outbreak of COVID-19 had been extended until 14th April 2020.
During the MCO period, SMA Secretariat updated the government's regulations, policies and information to members through email and whatsapp.
