SMA Activities Report (July - September 2005)
The President, the Vice-President (Internal Affairs) and some members (food manufacturers) attended the opening ceremony of Food Mentoring Program for Small & Medium Scale Food Industries by YB Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr. George Chan Hong Nam, the Deputy Chief Minister, Minister of Modernization of Agriculture and Minister of Industrial Development, Sarawak. Some members participated in the 3-day program jointly organised by SMI , SMI Association Sarawak Branch and Department of Agriculture Sarawak and conducted by Nestle Foods (M) Sdn Bhd.
9th Council Meeting .
The Vice-President (Internal Affairs) attended a Meeting on Food Industry Development in Sarawak at Department of Agriculture, Sarawak.
120 participants attended Workshop on Safe Handling of Chemicals Hazardous to Health at Workplace Jointly organized by SMA & Welfare and Sport Club of
Department of Occupational Safety and Health, Sarawak at Hotel Grand Continental, Kuching.
The Assistant Treasurer and a Council Member (Mr. Sim Cho Phong )attended SMB ICT Solutions Campaign 2005 organized by SMI Association of Malaysia at Kuching Hilton Hotel.
10th Council Meeting .
Sarawak Investment & Trade Dialogue and Seminar on Opportunities in Manufacturing and Related Service was held at Crown Plaza Riverside Hotel. The function was officiated by YAB Pehin Sri Dr. Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud, Chief Minister of Sarawak and keynote address was delivered by YB Dato' Seri Rafidah Aziz, Minister of International Trade and Industry.
The President was invited to attend the opening ceremony. Honorary President (Mr. Chai) and the Vice-President (External Affairs) chaired some sessions at the seminar. The function attracted almost one thousand participants.
The President, the Deputy Secretary-General, a Council Member (Mr. Lim Ah Ted) attended a Dialogue Session on Goods and Service Tax (GST) organized by Royal Customs Department at Merdeka Palace Hotel, Kuching.
The Assistant Treasurer attended a Meeting on the Roles and Functions of Local Authorities in Nation Building. The meeting was convened by Ministry of Environment and Public Health, Sarawak and a consultant appointed by the Federal Ministry of Housing and Local Government to collect the feedback from various sectors, such as manufacturing and commerce.
The Deputy Secretary-General attended Market Briefing and Business Consultation with Matrade's Marketing Officers in conjunction with trade week 2005at Holiday Inn Kuching.
The Assistant Treasurer and a Council Member (Mr. Stephen Ung )attended 10th Anniversary Dinner ofSarawak Foundry And Engineering Industries Association at Sarawak Chamber, 3rd Floor, Crowne Plaza Riverside Hotel, Kuching.
The Vice-President (External Affairs) and the Secretary-General attended the opening ceremony of Adelaide Australia Fair (AAF) 2005 in Sarawak officiated by YAB Pehin Sri Dr. Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud, the Chief Minister of Sarawak at Kuching Hilton Hotel.
The President, the Vice-President (Internal Affairs), the Secretary-General and Ms Foo Siew Lin from Kim Hin Industry Sdn Bhd received the Consultants from MDS Traffic Planners & Consultants appointed by State Planning Unit, Chief Minister's Office Sarawak and provided their views on Integrated Transport Infrastructure Master Plan (INTIMS) .
Mr. Aloysius Lim, the President of ALJO Consults Sdn Bhd and his assistant Ms Nancy Chong called on the President at SMA office.
11th Council Meeting .
The Secretary-General attended 10th Anniversary Dinner of Sarawak Development Institute at Crowne Plaza Riverside Hotel, Kuching.
The Secretary-General attended the 185th Sarawak Industrial Coordination Committee (ICC) Meeting at State Finance Secretary's Office, Wisma Bapa Malaysia, Kuching.
The Vice-President (Internal Affairs) and the Deputy Secretary-General attended Business Dialogue with Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, House of Representations of Thailand at Kuching Hilton Hotel.
The Deputy Secretary-General attended Annual Dialogue Session between Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs and Private Sectors at Kuching Hilton Hotel.
The President, the Secretary-General, the Deputy Secretary-General, the Assistant Treasurer, the Executive Secretary and some members attended Briefing on The Cost Implication on the implementation of Amendments to the Sarawak Labour Ordinance organised by Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF) at Holiday Inn Kuching.
42nd Anniversary Dinner Committee Meeting.
The father-in-law of Madam Mariana Ung, Deputy Secretary-General (SMA Legal Advisor, Mr. Sim Thong Poh's father) passed away on 19 September 2005. The Honorary President (Mr. Chai), the President, the Vice-President (Internal Affairs), the Assistant Treasurer, the Executive Secretary and some Council Members paid last respect to the late Mr. Sim and/or attended the funeral.
The Deputy Secretary-General and some members attended Briefing on Grant for Enhancing Product Packaging, Design and Labeling Capabilities of SMEs and Grant for Development and Promotion of Halal Product at Small and Medium Industries Development Corporation (SMIDEC) Sarawak office.
SMA 42nd Anniversary Dinner held at Thian Court, Crown Square, Pending Road Kuching.
The Secretary-General attended a Workshop on Integrated Transport Infrastructure Master Plan (INTIMS) organised by State Planning Unit, Chief Minister's Office Sarawak.
The Vice-President (Internal Affairs), the Executive Secretary and some members attended Road Show on WTO Agreement on Technical Barrier to Trade (TBT) at SIRIM Berhad, Sarawak Branch.
The Vice-President (Internal Affairs), Council Member (Mr. Chai Koh Haw), the Executive Secretary and some members attended RosettaNET Malaysia and SMIDEC's 2005 Promotional Road Show at National Productivity Centre (NPC).
The Executive Secretary attended the opening ceremony of DUBS Merdeka EXPO 2005 officiated by YB Haji Mohd. Naroden bin Haji Majais, Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister's Office Sarawak. DUBS Merdeka EXPO 2005 was organised by Dewan Usahawan Bumiputera Sarawak, Kuching Branch at Kuching Waterfront from 29 September till 2 October 2005.
