GS1 is a leading global organisation established in 1977 at Brussels (Belgium) dedicated to the design and implementation of global standards and solutions to improve the efficiency and visibility of supply and demand chains globally and across sectors. The GS1 system of standards is the most widely used supply chain standards system in the world. GS1 operates in multiple sectors and industries in more than 100 countries.
The GS1 System is an integrated system of global standards that provides for accurate identification and communication of information regarding products, assets, services, locations and solutions to fundamentally improve efficiency and visibility of supply and demand chains. . It is the most implemented supply chain standards system in the world.
The GS1 Identification System includes:
Global Trade Item Number (GTIN)
Serial Shipping Container Code (SSCC),
Global Location Number (GLN)
Global Returnable Asset Identifier (GRAI),
Global Individual Asset Identifier (GIAI),
Global Service Relation Number (GSRN),
GS1 System has provided benefits to consumers around the world for over thirty years in more than 100 countries. It was introduced in Malaysia in July 1988. The subscriber of GS1 System under GS1 Malaysia comprised of manufacturers, distributors, traders, wholesalers, retailers, statutory bodies, IT suppliers and systems providers.
