Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC)
With effect from 02 April 2008, the Government of Malaysia has authorised the Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC) to issue the Malaysian Halal Certificate which was previously issued by JAKIM (Department of Islamic Development Malaysia).
HDC is wholly-owned by the Government of Malaysia through the Ministry of Finance. HDC was established on 18 September 2006 to fasttrack Malaysia¡¯s 10-year Halal Hub project. HDC is the world¡¯s first Halal focused development corporation tasked to ensure the integrated and comprehensive development of the Halal industry.
Malaysian Halal Certification
All matters pertaining to Malaysian Halal Certification which was previously handled by the Halal Hub Division in JAKIM has been undertaken by HDC. The Halal Certification Process will still be the same and the Malaysian Halal Logo will be displayed and used on all HDC Halal Certificates. A total of 52 staff from the Halal Hub Division, JAKIM which include Syariah and Technical Auditors with more than 10 years experience, are now being employed by HDC to ensure the continuity of the Halal Certification Process.
Holders of existing Halal Certificates issued by JAKIM (Department of Islamic Development Malaysia) shall still be allowed to use the Certificate, until such time the validity period expires, as stipulated in the Certificate. After the expiry of the validity period, only Certification by HDC is to be accepted and recognised.
